Apple plans to launch Apple Pay in China this week to yield on stern opposition from Samsung and Alibaba, and is judging the countries of France and Canada next.
Apple plans to increase Apple Pay past the US and UK by launching it in China as early as this week and France and Canada by the first half of this year, as it looks to take on opposition from Samsung, Paypal, Alibaba and others. On Sunday, a China bank’s authorized WeChat account confirmed Thursday’s Apple Pay launch in China for 5AM local time. Apple had formerly confirmed the launch of Apple Pay in China for some time in 2016.
Guangfa Bank in china has confirmed the launch in a statement:
Hello, the Apple Company, China UnionPay mutually confirmed, Apple Pay service will be held February 18 at 5:00 officially launched. Atlantic Equities analyst James Cordwell expressed Reuters in December that Apple should have no delinquent in the China market, which Eddy Cue, Apple SVP of Internet Software said in December. “I think Samsung Pay depends on Samsung marketing devices and I think if everything, Samsung is in retreat in that market. So, I don’t see Samsung Pay as a major threat,”Cordwell said. Apple Pay could believably be a huge business for Apple, but implementation will depend on sales of iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, consumer readiness to change and retailer IT infrastructure.
